Contraception and Menstrual Management for Girls with Complex Medical Conditions

Young women with chronic illness require specialized care for menstrual disorders and for contraception. Our expertise in adolescent gynecology is nationally recognized with many of our physicians as leaders in the field.

Eating Disorder Program

Adolescents struggling with eating disorders need specialized medical and mental health care for the best chance at a complete recovery. The Eating Disorder Program is a collaborative effort between Adolescent Medicine and Child Psychiatry to provide comprehensive care. Most of our patients are seen in the outpatient setting, while those who require medical stabilization are hospitalized on our inpatient unit.

CHAM Adolescent Menstrual Program (CHAMP)

CHAMP was created in 2019 with a focus on diagnosing and treating young girls who have heavy menstrual periods. The physicians in this practice will identify and manage the underlying cause of the heavy period bleeding, whether it is a hormonal problem or undiagnosed bleeding disorder.

The IUD and Contraceptive Implant Service

The best contraception works nearly 100 percent of the time, is safe and reversible, and is one that young women don’t have to worry about every day. IUDs and implants can last for years, until adolescents and young adults finish school. We provide IUDs and implants in a confidential and adolescent-friendly environment.

Umbrella Program for LGBTQ+ Youth & Families

Our approach to gender non-conforming adolescents ages 13-24 is careful and thoughtful as well as trans-affirmative. We evaluate teens for pubertal suppression, menstrual suppression, and gender-affirming medical care. We care for pre-pubertal gender incongruent children by offering medical guidance and psychosocial support to parents and providing regular monitoring for pubertal onset. We help parents establish mental health care and provide referrals for surgical services when needed. We see patients in Westchester County at the Hartsdale practice, as well as in the Bronx at CHAM. The Umbrella Program, a service of the MAYS Clinic, also provides care for LGBTQ+ adolescents and young adults.

Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC)

The Division of Adolescent Medicine at CHAM provides the full range of contraceptive counseling and management for pregnancy prevention and menstrual management. In addition to short acting methods such as oral contraceptive pills and injectable depotmedroxyprogesterone acetate we also provide long-acting methods that include the contraceptive implant and hormonal and copper intrauterine devices (IUDs) for adolescents.

MAYS Clinic

CHAM has a long history of delivering cutting-edge care for LGBTQIA youth. Housed under the Divisions of Infectious Diseases and Adolescent Medicine and led by a former member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, our expert team provides comprehensive gender-affirming care for transgender adolescents living with HIV/AIDS, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV, post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV, as well as diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.

Montefiore Adolescent Primary Care Initiative (MAPCI)

MAPCI is a nationally recognized, multi-disciplinary collaboration between the Division of Adolescent Medicine and Montefiore Medical Group, instrumental in promoting adolescent access to care and educating primary care physicians about the challenges of providing optimal adolescent care. MAPCI projects include medical center-wide initiatives related to adolescent confidentiality, optimizing the Electronic Medical Record for adolescent primary care, and transitioning adolescents to adult care.
